TOMRA Mining launched CONTAIN, a deep learning solution designed to classify complex inclusion-type ores that traditional sorting methods struggle to detect. The system uses convolutional neural networks to analyze X-ray imagery in real time and identify rocks that likely contain subsurface ore mineral inclusions. TOMRA says it developed the technology in-house and built it to integrate with its existing sorting ecosystem. Field trials at Wolfram Bergbau showed higher throughput, lower ore losses, and improved tails grade, demonstrating clear operational gains.
