Summary
Great panel, in Paris, last week at DeepTech Alliance Explore 2024 with Simone Less from Aramco Ventures, Daniel Abicht from Equinor Ventures, Rachael Reid from bp Ventures, Dr. Winfried Koch from ExxonMobil moderated by Lucas MAURICE from Hello Tomorrow which hosted us at the lovely La Bellevilloise We discussed the reality of deep tech investments given the higher risk profile and the longer time horizons which requires partners that understand the inherent challenges and can support startups in the arduous process. Had the opportunity to share the deep tech success story that WindFloat is and to look forward on opportunities such as Captura which EDP, along with two other companies on stage, invested in. Interesting to see that despite different profiles the outlook in terms of areas of focus converged: Storage as a linchpin for attaining ambitious energy transition objectives is top of mind and decarbonization is a hot topic across the board (see tip above). Hydrogen is still mentioned by some although no longer all. Nice to see that we are not alone in naming robotics and automation as key areas for development in coming years in order to support the speed and scale necessary for the rollout of electrification targets.
