VolunteerSpot, an Austin, Texas-based free event planning and community engagement platform for parents, teachers and volunteers, raised $1.3m in funding. In conjunction with the funding, Manish Agarwal will be joining VolunteerSpot’s board of directors. Launched in 2009 by Karen Bantuveris, Founder, VolunteerSpot enables users to select where they want to pitch-in, share or swap tasks, make donations, purchase tickets, sync sign-ups to their online calendars, and send automatic messages and reminders. To date, more than 7 million families, teachers and involved community members have used the platform to participate in over 20 million school and classroom activities and good works in local fundraisers, sporting events, community service projects, potlucks, charity walks and races, etc. The company is privately held and funded by AXA, ffVC and angel investors.
