EntroMat lands $1 million co-investment from Breakthrough Victoria and Swinburne

Melbourne-based materials startup EntroMat has secured $1 million in a joint investment from Breakthrough Victoria and Swinburne University.EntroMat develops advanced metal powders known as High Entropy Materials (HEMs), which are designed for use in sectors such as aerospace, mining, energy and medical technology.HEMs are engineered by combining multiple principal elements into a single alloyan approach that can result in materials with greater mechanical strength, thermal stability, and resistance to corrosion and wear compared to conventional alloys.EntroMats powders are tailored for advanced manufacturing methods such as additive manufacturing, surface coatings and powder metallurgy.According to the company, potential applications include hydrogen systems and fuel cells, surgical implants, and high-temperature aerospace components.EntroMats products have secured interest from D&T Hydraulics, a remanufacturing service provider for the mining sector based in the Mackay & Bowen Basin in Queensland, EntroMat CEO Greg Lindsay said.The company has signed a Letter of Intent for EntroMat to develop, test and provide a prototype of a cutting-edge HEM product for the remanufacture of hydraulic cylinder rods by D&T.Both Swinburne and Breakthrough Victoria are contributing $500,000 each to the early-stage investment, with the latters portion being part of its $100 million University Innovation Platform.This program has seen contributions from several institutions including $9 million each from Swinburne, Deakin University, La Trobe University, the University of Melbourne and Monash University.RMIT and Australian Catholic University have contributed $7.5 million and $7 million respectively.All of this funding is subsequently matched by Breakthrough Victoria.EntroMats technology represents a game-changer for industries that demand stronger, more resilient, and sustainable materials, Breakthrough Victoria CEO, Rod Bristow, said.Our investment reflects our commitment to turning cutting-edge research into real-world solutions that drive innovation and economic growth.
