Virtru Raises $6M

Virtru, a Washington, DC-based email encryption startup, raised $6m in financing.In conjunction with the funding, BVP Partner David Cowan, who co-founded VeriSign, Good Technology and Defense.net, will join Virtru’s board of directors along with Authentic8 CEO Scott Petry.The company, which has now raised $10.3m, will use the capital to extend its platform support and create new features for consumers and businesses.Led by John Ackerly, CEO and Co-Founder, Virtru provides encryption software that allows individuals or enterprises to encrypt attachments, revoke messages, restrict forwarding and set expiration dates.Right now, the browser plug-in and mobile apps are currently free to consumers, with the introduction of commercial features for business users coming soon.
