Brown and Caldwell secures $650,000 to lead climate resilience and sustainability projects

Upon completion, the research will deliver valuable outcomes, including the industrys first comprehensive greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions library, effective strategies for meeting strict nutrient limits while reducing carbon footprints, and a practical guide for regional collaboration in managing brine waste streams. "We are proud to receive this funding from WRF so that Brown and Caldwell can continue to collaborate with research partners and utilities in identifying and sharing industry-wide, innovative solutions that ensure efficient, sustainable water supplies for communities. "The three research projects and anticipated impact are: Developing a Greenhouse Gas Emissions Library for Unit Processes by Water Utilities and Decentralized Systems (WRF 5255). Traditionally, WRRFs have used energy-intensive biological nutrient removal (BNR) methods that often require costly external carbon sources and significant operational expenses. This project seeks to create a framework and guidance manual for the industry to regionally collaborate on effective solutions to manage brine streams an important challenge given the growing need to diversify water supplies and be more resilient in the face of climate-related changes.
