New provincial funding supports taking health innovations to market

A commercialization and innovation initiative led by Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) along with Wilfrid Laurier University, Unity Health Toronto and Sinai Health has received funding from a provincial agency.This collaborative initiative will receive $315,000 to support commercialization for promising health and wellness technologies from Intellectual Property Ontario (IPON). A number of new research initiatives will benefit from the market analysis and technology expertise that will be facilitated through this funding.This welcomed support from IPON will enable an important program and advance innovative entrepreneurial and commercialization opportunities. By leveraging TMU researchers in depth and multidisciplinary expertise in health and well-being, and aiding them in bringing their technologies to market, all Ontarians will benefit, said Steven N. Liss, TMUs vice-president, research and innovation.IPON is a provincial agency that provides intellectual property support and services to enable Ontario researchers and businesses to innovate and grow. It has announced a new $2.9 million investment to support innovation and commercialization projects at 10 post-secondary institutions across the province.
