Magpie Pictures expands team and dev slate with Screen Australia funding

Australian indie producer Magpie Pictures has invested in growing its management team following a strong three years of production development, launches and slate expansion.Magpie Pictures has appointed Claire Lindsay and Ree Evans as joint development producers, in a job share and newly created role based at the companys regional NSW office of Ballina.Former lawyer at Screen Australia and legal counsel at Foxtel, Matthew Kelly has joined the team as consulting business executive and EP.The new roles have been funded by Screen Australia Enterprise Business support. In other changes, Meredith Hussey has been promoted to general manager.These new appointments, and Merediths promotion, will build the development and production capacity of the company, said Magpie Pictures founder Lois Randall.The prodco currently has new series Swift Street, screening on SBS in Australia and it premiered in competition at Canneseries 2024.Randall said that the new slate of productions includes highly distinctive original concepts from new and experienced writers, and adaptations of works from Australian women novelists set in unique worlds.With Enterprise Business support we aim to take advantage of new creative and market partnerships and opportunities to produce game-changing scripted series. We know its an increasingly competitive global market but we believe Magpie Pictures is offering something fresh and original, she added.
