May 18, 2023, Oakland, CA Planted Solar, an Oakland-based climate start-up, announced that it was selected to receive a $1.6 million award from the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO).Planted Solars awarded project focuses on the development, demonstration, and validation of a novel ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) system. This innovative system, balance-of-system components, and installation methodology are designed to lower costs and increase deployment speed in the utility-scale PV sector. The project will support highly automated and rapid installation of solar arrays, reducing the levelized cost of electricity and land use competition while increasing siting flexibility.Planted Solar was selected as a part of the Solar Manufacturing Incubator funding program, an effort to accelerate commercialization of innovative product ideas to boost the solar supply chain.
