When women in Washington, D.C., experience the traumatic and long-lasting effects of homelessness, Calvary Womens Services provides resources like housing, health, and job placement services that promote success and self-empowerment.In 2023, Washington, D.C. saw a 12% increase in homelessness. While women make up nearly 30% of the total adult homeless population in the region, there are only 4% of shelter beds reserved for them. Additionally, 2023 saw a sharp increase in reports of domestic violence associated with womens homelessness.To help close this gap and address the communitys need for safe, supportive housing, Calvary Womens Services expanded their housing services to include a new location, New Foundations. This program will provide 18 additional beds for unhoused women and women escaping domestic violence. In addition to housing, women will have access to safe living spaces, nutritious meals, clothing and hygiene supplies, transportation, and other resources to help them become more stable and independent.Calvary Womens Services will receive a $75,000 grant from the Aura Cacia Positive Change Project in 2024 to help support the New Foundations Holistic Support Services program.
