Summary
This revision accomplishes three main things: it changes the Basic Child Support Obligation (BCSO) table; it changed the formula for the court to use in circumstances where parents have lower incomes; and it establishes a formula and a parenting time adjustment to the child support amount. In most cases, this means that since the costs of raising children have increased since 2007, the amount of child support that should be paid has also gone up. The biggest change in the Child Support Statute is including a mandatory parenting time adjustment in the calculation, instead of a discretionary deviation.
