We would like to draw the attention of the traditional inshore salmon aquaculture industry to a third alternative system for protecting farmed salmon from naturally occurring sea lice. Unlike semi-closed or closed-at-sea systems using impermeable pvc, our Smoltscreen enclosures use porous nylon woven mesh in a combination of layers to provide a full enclosure that is of fine filtering pores, protecting salmon from the smallest stage of sea lice larvae and still allowing a flow of oxygenating sea water. 37% of the mesh is actually open air, through which sea water flows very well..
