How Synopsys acquisition of Ansys could streamline design and simulation

Ansys has its core in physic simulations of mechanical, electrical, and heat properties, which are increasingly important in designing smaller chip features where these effects come into play. This difference could be due to the massive surge in interest in building chips compared to the relatively slower uptake in physics simulation tools required to meet net-zero goals. Ansys has also invested in developing multi-physics knowledge graphs to help streamline workflows that span different mechanical, electrical, and thermal design engineering disciplines. Ansys CTO Dr. Prith Banerjee has been a leading organizer within the DTC and, if he stays on, may play an essential role in integrating the Synopsys ecosystem of tools with broader work on extending digital twins infrastructure from large physical products and buildings into chips and software security. It will be interesting to see how the Ansys team might streamline the development of digital threads to simplify workflows in chip design, physics simulations, and software testing and security.
