Sunnyvale-based Synopsys Inc. on Tuesday announced its plans to acquire software and simulation company Ansys Inc. in a deal valued at $35 billion. Synopsys (Nasdaq: SNPS) is an electronic design automation and semiconductor company that is also a member of the S&P 500. Investors boosted Synopsys stock by 1.3% to trade at nearly $501 a share as of 2:15 pm Eastern. The merger will bring together companies that have deep connections in Silicon Valley and also engineering design and analysis, with products and services not only on Earth, but also in space.
