Desmond's Daon offshoot seals Japanese deals

A Japanese-focused joint venture led by Daon - Dermot Desmonds biometrics company - has won a string of new contracts for its digital authentication technology that could see it grow to 15 million users within five years. "We hope Polarify will have registered between five and seven million individual identities by this time next year," said Clive Bourke, Daons president of EMEA and APAC. Daon already has a partnership in Japan with NEC to record fingerprints and facial images of foreign travellers arriving at airports. The deals, which mark a major expansion of Polarifys customer base, will be announced as part of an Enterprise Ireland trade mission to Japan, which includes a visit by Business Minister Heather Humphreys and involves 50 Irish companies in total. "We werent planning for what happened on the pitch against Japan but if there was any upside, it is the fact that the Japanese are very focused on Ireland at the moment," said ORiordan.
