Summary
In the minutes that ensued we tripled our user base, but in the process lost an even greater potential growth due to our unforeseen downtime, brought on by the overwhelming demand. We had to maintain reliable server infrastructure, perform regular maintenance checks, and prepare contingency plans in order to address any database-related issues promptly. As fortune would have it, we met another startup named Rapydo that had developed a new technology that could help us ramp up all the services we provide while reducing the load on our database. We learned from Rapydo that many companies use managed services such as Amazon RDS while suffering from similar issues as Hobiz, and that the whole fiasco was not by our own wrongdoing, but rather by design. This is just the first step of our journey, in the next post, Ill describe how exactly Rapydo Proxy works, and what are the results (hint, we reduced the amount of queries hitting our db by more then 60%!)
