Retail Alliance to award grant money to Phoebus retailers in pilot program
Summary
The Retail Alliance was awarded a $100,000 grant to conduct a yearlong pilot program in the Phoebus area of Hampton.The Department of Housing and Community Development of Virginia awarded the alliance with the Virginia Business District Resurgence Grant. The money will be used to implement an exploratory retail technical assistance program to help established Phoebus retailers develop seamless customer experiences.The project, in conjunction with Downtown Phoebus Partnership and the citys economic development department, will include business assessments and recommendations and grants of $3,000 to $5,000 to five businesses. The program will also hold three educational workshops for all businesses in the commercial district.Retail Alliance President and CEO Jennifer Crittenden said the intent is to replicate the program in other communities.
