Swedish deeptech Enerpoly advances in zinc-ion battery production with Vinnova grant

Stockholm-based deeptech Enerpoly uses its patented technology to develop and produce zinc-ion battery cells and packs. The startup has been awarded a $600,000 grant from Vinnova, the Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems.The two-year grant will support the development of zinc-ion battery electrodes to enable large-scale manufacturing of the batteries.We couldnt be more excited about being at the forefront of jump-starting the renewable energy transition. With the demand for batteries intensifying globally, the industry urgently needs the development and adoption of more sustainable and innovative battery solutions, said Enerpoly co-founder and CSO Samer Nameer.According to Enerpoly electrode fabrication is the most critical and challenging step in scaling up zinc-ion technology to the megawatt-hour (MWh) production levels required for large-scale stationary storage applications. The main focus of the grant is to enable Enerpoly to increase the volume and speed of various electrode fabrication steps up to 50-fold and reduce scrap. "The Vinnova grant will help our team develop our technology and internal processes to meet the demands for a world powered by 100% clean energy," adds Nameer.
