Google points to many ways it can win in A.I. even as online ad market shows cracks
Summary
Alphabet has faced a lot of noise this year around the health of its core search business, due to a slumping digital ad market and the longer-term potential for artificial intelligence chatbots to take traffic. Online advertising, which has been a difficult market for the past year, remains slow because of economic concerns and corporate cost cutting. However, Googles search business still expanded, and CEO Sundar Pichai pointed to the companys homegrown chatbot called Bard, which has been a major focus of investment in recent months. But where Google can benefit no matter what happens in the ad market is on the cloud infrastructure side, where it competes with Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. Pichai said that more than 70% of so-called unicorns (generally defined as billion-dollar tech startups) in generative AI are Google Cloud customers.
