T2 Biosystems, a Lexington, MA-based clinical diagnostics company, completed a $40m financing.The round was led by new investor Goldman Sachs, with participation from existing investors Flagship Ventures, Polaris Partners, Aisling Capital, Flybridge Capital Partners, Physic Ventures, Arcus Ventures, Partners Healthcare, Camros Capital and WS Investments.Led by John McDonough, President and CEO, T2 Biosystems is developing T2Candida™, a molecular diagnostic test panel for the sensitive and rapid identification of species-specific Candida fungal infections directly from whole blood, which leverages T2MR®, its proprietary magnetic biosensor detector.It detects molecular or immunoassay targets as well as hemostasis biomarkers directly from unpurified clinical samples in hospitals, labs and physicians’ offices.The company intends to use the capital for the clinical programs and commercialization of its T2Candida™, completion of development of additional sepsis diagnostic panels and advancement and expansion of its research of other molecular, immunodiagnostic and hemostasis assays.
