South African healthtech, Contro secures $580K pre-seed

South African telehealth startup, Contro, has announced the close of its oversubscribed pre-seed funding round, raising a total of $580,000. Launched in June 2021 by Alex Schmid, Contro focuses on sexual health and confidence treatment. Currently, the company offers six services including subscription services for birth control, erectile dysfunction treatment and hair loss treatment, as well as once-off treatment for STIs, Thrush and UTIs. With 30% of the startups customers based in the townships and rural areas of South Africa, Contro will use the funds to develop its platform and expand its services, as well as grow its team, with the goal of facilitating targeted growth across South Africa.
