KITRO secures capital in a seed round

Minimizing food waste lies in the hearts of Anastasia Hofmann and Naomi MacKenzie the founders of KITRO. Thanks to their fully automated food waste measurement system for restaurants, the startup has attracted investors that contributed to its first financing round to accelerate market entry.KITRO is developing a fully automated food waste measurement system comprising of the KITRO box and software to enable restaurants and hotels to identify, track and monitor food waste. The solution allows players in the food and beverage industry to optimize their performance by reducing avoidable food waste by up to 60%.In addition to the ongoing pilot projects, the KITRO team has completed 12 pilots with different players such as Mercure hotels, allowing them to gather feedback on their products. The first shipments will be made in May 2019.While the startup strives to reduce food waste, it has completed its first financing round backed by private Business angels from Z\xfcrich and Geneva. In addition to closing the financing round, we have gained traction and attracted the attention of several other players including the ETH University and EPFL who are currently piloting with us, adds Mackenzie.KITRO has benefited from various support programs and received financial grants from programs such as the Climate KIC accelerator and booking.com grant.
